Default New Magnepan Reference 20.7

Great news... looks like the long awaited replacement for the 20.1 is just around the corner... and it's jumped to a 20.7... Jacob Heilbrunn says its vastly superior to the 20.1

First Listen: Magnepan

I just noticed that info last evening!

I have to admit after getting the 3.7s broken in, they out do my 3.6s by a wide margin. If the 20.1 to 20.7 improvement is in the same degree, those 20.7s will be absolutely stunning.

between the 1.7, 3.7 and now 20.7, the future is looking amazingly bright for Magnepan.

I bet the 20.7's will sound awsome. I suppose there might be a few 3.7 owners upgrading. I wouldn't mind moving up to 3.7's but not sure I could get my wife to buy into the idea. Thanks for posting the review. It gets me excited hearing of another great audio product.

Very cool. Can't wait to hear them. Love my 3.7s but 20.7 I bet are worth trading up!

Great news, Now to find a place to listen to them! This should improve the used 20.1 market, 2012 is looking better and better!

Jim

Have to think that after so many years of persistence with their singular vision for affordability and musicality that Magnepan have hit something of a golden period.

I'm not suggesting that they are everything for everybody but for those that fall under their spell they are so deeply and lastingly satisfying... it seems I could just stick with Maggies for the long haul. The new reference Maggie promises to be something of a triumph... and 13k sounds like such a small price to pay for a lifetime of happiness.

Certainly if the 20.7s prove a reasonable step up from the 20.1 they will be a likely purchase somewhere down the track... if however 20.7 are as big step up as Jacob Heilbrunn says then it might just be a case of resistance being useless... and that aint just talkin mid and tweeter attenuators now.

Either way I'm sure it will be a keenly awaited audition for many a Magnepan fan... oh happy days.

So generally speaking, could a room, with 3.7s in it now that are set tweeters in, and provide pretty stunning overall imaging, soundstage width and depth, nice bass, etc. simply take a pair of 20.1s and thus 20.7s, put them in essentially the same position and tweak a bit from there?

Heaven help for even contemplating such a thing, but considering it took me nearly 2 years of experimenting with the 3.6s then 3.7s to get everything just right, I'd hate to have to start from scratch with 20.7s. 20.7s would have to be something extremely special for me to go back and start that science project again.

I put a question to the Australian importer kind of asking the same thing... I asked Bill what size room would be needed to make the 20.7s sing given his considerable experience with the 20.1 and he said pretty much the same room that works really well with the 3.7s...

Also I kind of enjoy the fine tuning process with ultra transparent speakers, because its easy to hear what you are doing when you are moving them about. Less revealing speakers are a bit of a pita to set up because they don't feedback the same way and you just don't get that delightful precision click when you get them into the right place that a great set of speakers reward you with.

The beautiful thing is that the 3.7's sound so brilliant atm that I am more than happy to wait till I can audition the 20.7 and see for myself... it's not like the 3.7's are exactly starving us for music at all... tho christmas could just involve an optional IOU for a pair of 20.7s anyway
