Default Stowa Flieger

Does anyone have any experience with the Stowa Flieger watches? I’m looking for a basic but durable watch to wear hiking or just knocking about - a “field watch” if you will. I prefer a smaller case (38mm is best, this is available in 36 and 40) and no date, for under a grand. There seem to be very few options in this price range and smaller size. I’ve looked at Sinn also, but the Stowa seems to fit the bill for size and appearance, and ability to get it without date.

Any thoughts re Stowa as a brand?

No experience here. I’m interested in what you find out though - this is a tough price point, requiring a nicer and durable watch without breaking the bank.

No personal experience, but Stowa are generally regarded as excellent watches. If the case size is important, you might also check out Laco watches, which are generally considered comparable. I would not hesitate to purchase either brand. I use a Tudor Heritage Ranger to fill a similar role, with a field watch style, though the case size is a bit larger at 41mm, I believe. It gets more wear than any other watch I own. Of the Flieger style, the classic is the black dial, but I think the blue dial versions look great. Happy watch hunting!

They're great, Tony. Well made, usually with ETA movements, reliable, available in a range of sizes and materials. The other thing that is nice about them is they are very affordable. My favorite watch blog, Worn & Wound is a big fan of them and sells them at their online store.

The other company that makes comparable fliegers is Archimede.

Thanks for the tip, nice replacement for my dying Invicta Explorer 2. Ignore the crappy cell phone pic, I was so excited on its arrival from Germany.

Congratulations. I’ve been wearing mine for about a year now, typically 3-4 days a week. I don’t bother with watch winders, I just let it run down when not wearing it, and it’s been fine so far.
