Blu-ray Question...

So as I add to my BR collection I have noticed on two of the older titles that I bought one being, Mission Impossible number 3 in the series, that the audio was listed in the menu as only the older format of "Dolby Digital" and not "Dolby Digital True HD" for the lossless audio format.

So what gives, I thought BR meant 1080P in video and lossless audio either thru Dolby Digital True HD or DTS Master Audio?

Blu-ray Disc is a disc format. It has the capability of storing and displaying 1080P and lossless audio. But if a studio or person wants to put non-high def or lossy audio files, they are welcome to do so.

The same is true on the Ocean's Eleven trilogy. No lossless audio.

Thanks, I never knew that. To me they should not be able to call it a Blu-ray. IMHO that is just false advertising and honestly it is a out right lie. On the front end they are telling you one thing, and once you open up the package it is another....

Have you checked it when playing? I find some are mislabeled...you may have the lossless...

So your are saying that when you click on the volume and it shows what the audio format is like Dolby Digital True HD on your screen that it might be different then what you would see listed in the menu under audio?

trek737, ... I can tell you I have been doing a lot of research on Blu-ray movies.

One had better really do some reading if possible before jumping on a Blu-ray movie thinking that both the, (Video & Audio) are "Superior".
Trust me from what I have now found out there are so many out there that are no better than the DVD you might already have in your collection.
And it varies on the Video & Audio.
Some the Video is Awesome .......
Some the Video is OK but nothing really all that special.
Then some the Audio is just Incredible and others like you have Posted are not at all.

I'm going to be very selective on my purchases of BR.

Sorry, I meant what is on the box may be different than what you actually have...if the menu says it isn't True HD, then no, it isn't going to be True HD.

For me the majority of my Bluray titles are vastly superior to DVD...I rarely put a DVD in anymore. I wish more of the music Blurays would mix in 96/24 like Dave Mathews at Radio City Music Hall.

96/24 is Killer for sure
