Technics SL1200 Series "Drop In" Hardwood Cabinets
Noticed while visiting KAB (KAB ELECTRO ACOUSTICS) they have Solid Hardwood Bases for Technics SL1200 series TT's for $225.00.
These look great, IMO and really "polish" up the SL1200 series TT. From KAB's website: "Solid Hardwood Bases. Your 1200 simply drops into place. No obstructions, No modifications. Hand rubbed lacquer finish. Give your 1200 a more traditional look with one of our wood bases. Note: These are a natural product so the depth of color of the one you receive will vary from the photographs shown."

The wood bases are attractive. I like the walnut and cherry the best. Nice way to jazz up a SL1200.

The SL1200 is a nice table. I might get one for the 2nd system. The wood bases are a nice touch to give the 1200 a vintage look. Who knows it might even improve the tracking and give a more intimate listening experience with articulate bass, life like mids and smooth highs. An increase in presense, transparency with a wider and deeper sound stage could occur when adding the wood base. If it doesn't improve the sound, it's stll cool looking

Dave...if you decide to resurrect either of your two SL1200s, Jeff Dorgay at Tone Audio did a piece on mods for the SL1200 that vastly improved its performance. Here's a link to issue 22 of Tone Audio and I believe the article starts on page 15 and describes the aftermarket mods he applied to the SL1200.
