Paul Bley - Modern Chant, a 1994 Venus Records LP with Bley on piano, David Eyges on electric cello and Bruce Ditmas on drums. Bley always seems to be posing questions in his playing and leaving the answers open.

Listening to . . . a really old one . . .A Bossa Nova Hammond B-3

Walter Wanderley - Rain Forest

Walter Wanderley - Brazil's No. 1 Organist

A Verve Jazz recording from 1966 - Produced by Creed Taylor

This will be very familiar to many of us "oldsters" Extremely popular in the late 1960's. I have the LP but found it easier to just play the CD tonight. In a couple of words "it's great".

Audionut, browsed first 80 pages, 200 to go. Here is another great guitar player that stayed almost unknown to wider public. It is Ray Crawford, played in 50's with Ahmad Jamal Trio, also underexposed player, with great organ player Jimmy Smith, etc. In 1961 Crawford got the opportunity to record album as a leader, he carefully picked the crew, that consist of lyrical trumpeter Johnny Coles, bluesfull piano player Junior Mance, baritonist Cecil Payne and a rytham section Tucker, Dunlop. But Candid records went bust before the release of the record. It set on some shelf untill 1988. Great music.

What do you expect to hear when an opera singer tries to sing jazz?

Well, in this case, the result is nothing short of phenomenal. This lady is a natural in the jazz idiom.

Listening to Kathleen Battle - So Many Stars

With Grover Washington, Jr., Cyrus Chestnut, Christian McBride, James Carter

I'm going to recommend this to my "gentle jazz" friends. This lady can sing. - She is one of the best classical/opera divas but could have made it as a chanteuse or jazz singer just as well.
