Yessir! State to state or locally. They confiscate tr cash because they then accuse you of beig a drug dealer. It's disgusting because the burden of proof then lies on the accused. Guilty until you prove yourself innocent.

Amex for me, paid off every month so it's as good as cash but I get the points. I know at an intellectual level that its probably financially better to borrow at a low rate and invest the cash at a higher rate, but at an emotional level it feels so much better to be debt free.
And btw, there's nothing illegal about carrying large amounts of cash. Federal anti-money laundering laws require a bank to report any transaction over 10k and you have to fill out a form. Same thing when traveling internationally, you have to declare any cash over 10k but its not illegal. On the other hand if a police officer pulls you over and you have 50k wrapped with rubber bands in a paper bag and no bank receipt and you tell him you're going to buy speakers, can you blame him for being suspicious and bringing in the drug sniffing dog?

+1
When I say I pay cash for everything, I really mean a cash back credit card. I get a 1% cash rebate on purchases. I have three cash-back credit cards (Costco AMEX, plus two MC). None have ever carried a balance and are paid in full monthly.

Cash for me....admittedly, this meant a little less in my retirement plan.

In Belgium, it is not longer legal to pay more than 5000€ in cash.
It used to be 15000€, but the government tries to decrease the parallel economy.
It is of course, quite difficult for them to control everything, and some dealers have no objection at all when you want to pay with 500€ banknotes...

A self indulgent splurge expenditure on a pure luxury/nonessential toy should never involve going into debt! A CC paid in full at end of month is OK.

Actually!

When you are pulled over with more than 10k cash you have NO WAY to prove you aren't out to buy drugs. That's the way they get you. You can tell them all day you're out to buy a Ferrari or speakers or whatever, but the officer accuses you attempting to purchase drugs. Your word against his, and it takes forever to fight.

Just google 'highway cash seizure' and read away.
