I think that after listening the Rockport Technology Arrakis is very diffucult to find out a better loudspeaker.

Unless it's the Sophia 3, based on Grader's comments. Never heard it or the Arrakis.

Guys, The Rockport Arrakis is $225,000 per pair, and is in a league of its own - and yes -I have heard it.

Would you please share with us your listening experience with Rockport Arrakis. In which set-up they were associated? Thanks in advance. |

Nothing is in a league of it's own. There are no absolutes in Audio, only preferences! I preferred one speaker over another; however someone else may prefer a different sound. Who's right? No one!

When evaluating high end speakers, I am always looking for which speaker sounds more ultimately telling and real. The ability to show information about the recording , the recording venue, the recording technique, and ultimately, to sound more "real" over a wide range of recordings is what separates the best speakers from those that are merely really good. The less of a sonic signature the speaker has, the better. The speaker should be transparent to the source, as much as possible. In my experience, whenever I have followed the above criteria, I've been happiest, as ultimately, it gets you closer to the music. However, some people will have a different manner to critique speakers, and that's ok. I just don't think that any type of sound that you can identify is a good thing long term. Less is truly more when it comes to sonic signature- of course there is a degree of opinion in evaluating this, but it is opinion about which one is closest to the truth - not an opinion about what type of sound you like on a particular recording or group of recordings. So, based on the above criteria, the Rockport Arrakis was the best speaker I have ever heard. It was the most Chameleon like - it sounded different on each recording, yet the tonality was believable on each different recording. It presented loads of information about the recording venue, and was truly full range and it vanished as a sound source with no enlargement of image - everything was as tightly focused as a small mini monitor when the recording venue and technique called for it. No other large speaker I have heard could pull of the imaging feat, and they all had more a more readily identifiable sonic signature and less believability as far as tonality, from recording to recording. So, again sorry, for the hyperbole - I just really meant it was the best I have heard, with 2nd place being a substantial distance away. |

Here's a photo of the Arrakis - about 900 lbs each with a pair of 15's for the bottom end for each channel - all custom carbon fiber sandwiched drivers - an incredible "poured" cabinet with carbon fiber- notice the sweeping curves to eliminate diffraction. |
