Default From Beauty to the Beast

After living and mostly loving the Sonus Faber Stradivari's for the past 5 years, my local drug dealer gave me an offer I could not refuse on a pair of barely used Wilson Maxx 3's.

I have been pretty excited since Saturday when I agreed to the change. They have just been installed and I can see why Charles is so happy with his Maxx's delivered last week.

These things are holy mother of xxxx heavy. The delivery guys really struggled and earn't their pay today.

After set up they are playing sweet music. They are still on the wheels so I can play around a bit over the next couple of weeks. then the guy will come back and spike them.

Both my daughters who are on holidays said they are ugly and look like robots.

I like them and they are sort of modern art with a bit of the beast thrown in. totally different to the beautiful at every angle Strads.

First impressions are that the scale and control are in another world. Treble is not as airy as the Strads, but that was expected. The height of the Maxx's mostly compensate for that and it is very sweet in fact.

following are some photo's that you may enjoy

cheers

WOW !
Congrats Shane !
which color do you have ?
Their look is clearly not for everyone. People either love or hate them.
But their sound is much more universal and this is what matters.
I never heard the sound of the Maxxx, but I heard the Alexandria and loves them.

Congrats Shane! The looks grow on you and in a short period of time, they start to look better than any other speaker out there. Their performance will knock your socks off as you start going through your music library, at least that's always been my experience with the various Wilson speakers I have owned. Never owned the Maxx 3 though.

Ah....
I love the pic of one of the delivery guy looking at the speaker inside the box ! He seems a bit surprised !
They look very nice Shane. I personaly prefer the look of the Strads but I could live with the Maxx.
Waiting for your impressions concerning the sound.
I believe that you're in for a big change in tone presentation compared to the Strads.
BTW, I love your "Elvis BLD" !
