Jacques.......I will be waiting for your Magnum Dynalab MD-109T photos and review. It is a great looking tuner, although my preference still tilts to the look of the MD-108T.

Magnum Dynalab MD 109T

Congrats on your purchase JCR. I used to have a Magnum Dynalab 109t and a Mcintosh MR85 in my system at different times. The MR85 had a dynamic, ballsy sound that made rock and pop stations sound exciting. The 109t was a bit more refined but threw the widest soundstage I've heard from a tuner. It also had great clarity and detail. Both about equal in number of stations pulled in, and both stunning in the looks dept.

I like the looks of the 108t as well, just looking at MD's website I see they're going to be launching HD tuners. That will be interesting as most of the good AM stations here are on HD anyway and it seems MD doesn't believe in AM on their tuners.

I saw that, too. I was thinking of having my MD 90 modded to a MD 100, but maybe I'll wait to see what's up with these new HD tuners. One reason I was considering an MR88 (aside from regaining AM capability in my setup) is the HD radio option.

The AM reception is pretty amazing on the MR88, I don't use it very often but it's nice to know it's there. Right now I feel like the MR88 is still the best tuner for me, even though there may be some sound quality improvements with a MD tuner, it'd be hard to give up the AM, HD channels and XM.

If Mc added internet radio to the MR88, that would be the shizzle.... IMHO

There used to be an MR88 in my main rig, but local HD radio stations changed their format from 24-hour blues, rock, jazz and classical to pop 40, easy listening and country in less than a year. The FM section of the MR88 sounded the same as my MR85, very smoothe and pleasing to the ear, so the MR88 had to go since HD radio stations were changing for the worse around here. My MD-108 has tubes in the line stage, and offers a livelier sound than the MD-108T, not quite as reticent and polite, which I prefer for rock and blues. Tried a WireWorld Platinum Electra power cord on the MD-108 and it became a little too forward for my liking, really jumped out of the speakers in your face. Switched to an AudioQuest NRG-Wild power cord and the forwardness was gone, exactly the sound I was hoping for from the MD-108, couldn't be more pleased. My MD tuners are very power cord dependent for sound, but when you get it right there is no better IMO

Do you mean the MD-108 was livelier than the MR88?

No, the MD-108 with tubes only in the line stage sounds livelier to me than the MD-108T, which has tubes in the output stage too. My MD-108 sounded too forward with a WW Platinum pc. The AQ NRG-Wild pc took care of that forward in your face sound, it's more relaxed now with excellent clarity and realism. Sorry about the confusion.

That makes sense. The regular 108 has a SS power supply, then?
