I am also having issues with my probably first gen 3D arm.

Balancing weight got detached - had to super glue it back.

The arm is drooping near the head shell.

My dealer consulted factory & was told to put in warm water 120F then bend it back to shape DIY style by myself. Do u think I can ask for a new arm ?

I would definitely request a replacement arm, I recall hearing that they were providing them for some issues with original versions. You have nothing to lose by asking, the worst they can do is to say no. From the first picture it appears that you have the VTA set very high, is that intentional or just an optical illusion from the pic?

Definitely should get a new arm. Forgo your dealer and contact VPI directly. Your dealer should not have accepted that explanation.

Your balancing wts should be able to be adjusted by screwing in/out to set azimuth. gluing into place will not allow that.

miner, I don't think the early 3d arms had adjustable side weights, the azimuth had to be set with the counterweight. For some reason I thought VPI was shipping Counter Intuitives with the early arms but maybe I'm making that up. I think V2 of the 3D arm added the screw in/out side weights.

Mine is the first gen which does not have adjustable side weights. I do have a new gen one which also gave me problem. The counter weight was just too tight a fit. Had to get dealer to ask for a new one. New one came after many months but is very loose with fairly big gap. It should be friction fit but is it not. Anyway, I have mounted the new arm & taken down this 1st gen arm.

The VTA looks high because the headshell has a droop. Added 0.3g to the tracking force to the 2.0g to become 2.3g. No wonder it sounded off a little dull & non dynamic. I thought I was being anal after months of lay off due to an ear issue in one ear until an acquaintance pointed out the issue.

Anyway, I have asked my dealer to demand for a new arm but not to be sponsored by the dealer (my dealer is nice like that) but rather the factory.

BTW, the VPI HRX + 3D arm + Koetsu = very very nice sound. So need to push through the support issue to continue with this setup

Joeling........This is such ridiculous advice. There have been many reported issues with this plastic tonearm from owners who bought into the 3D printed tonearm hoopla. Advice like this on how to repair a tonearm's factory defect is just one of several reasons why I would never consider this product. In my opinion, VPI should replace your tonearm with the latest version that supposedly fixes the drooping issues, or swap it for one of VPI's more traditional tonearms.

I agree with Dan. This pickup arm should be replaced or refunded, with help from the both the dealer and VPI.

This thread started w/miner having the same issue and VPI sent him a new one. Reach out to VPI directly and give them a chance. Repeated posts from 3D arm naysayers also don't really add much to this thread IMO.

Don't get me wrong, I like this setup. Just having a little issue that is very real & I want to seek some advice.

I have since replaced the drooping arm with another 3D arm that I have spare lying around that is of a later generation.
