Well, VPI's webpage listing for the Classic 4 says point blank that the 4 is Harry's favorite table that is not a direct drive table. That seems to say he prefers the 4 to the HRX .... Of course the 4 costs significantly less.

I still like the idea of a stand alone motor for the HR-X.

Hi guys ,
Sorry to revive an old thread .I wish I can post a link from the VPI forum regarding this topic .Harry W. said the HR-X was a better turntable than the Classic 4 . I believe this topic was also discussed at the audio asylum. I was also contemplating in getting the Classic 4 but after Harry made this statement I decided to get the HR-X. Mine did not come w/ the 3D tonearm. Tdh888 |

Hi Joeling,
It's been discussed also in the VPI Forum and Harry said the Avenger was more versatile because one can mount 3 tonearm , it has a smaller footprint regarding sonics there's plus & minuses . One time Harry said they're equal , then he said the Avenger had a very slight advantage over the HR-X . Regarding looks I like turntables w/ a wide footprint . tdh888 |
