Brussels Hifi Show
 Last year I discovered Vivid Audio at this show, so I was curious: will there be another nice surprise in this edition? A quick overview. GROUND FLOOR The best set-up there: Wilson Audio MAXX 3, with Mark Levinson amplification; source: top CD-player from Wadia. Good soundstage. Impressive bass. I like it though when the music gets a bit more loose from the speakers. But still excellent! Also good (better than last year, with a disturbingly crackling elpee): Magico Q5 with Zanden amps and Soulution source (CD). Classical orchestral music was playing. It was good, but a bit too clean. Other brands: numerous, like Bowers & Wilkins, Classé, Rotel, Meridian, Revel, Ayre,... Not really sticking out or static presentation. FIRST FLOOR Impressive standmounters from Klipsch, driven by Vitus Audio. Dynaudio Focus 360 with Chord Electronics is my BEST BUY of the show. You really get a lot of speaker for your cash! An unknown American brand McIntosh (  ) was also present! C50, MCD-1100, MC601's, XR200's. Even at European prices, McIntosh is absolutely competitive. The weak link in the chain seemed to be the speakers here. Would like to hear this set-up with other speakers.Also on this floor: Nuforce, Antelope (good DAC's!), Advance Acoustics, Triangle (nice but sounding a bit 'boxy'), Sugden, Quad, Naim, Neat,... The best from this floor: the little Avalon Idea, with dCs and Pass Labs. Very transparent sound. I'd like to hear their bigger models! SECOND FLOOR Adam Audio: active speakers. An interesting set-up with monitors costing less than 1000€, which you can connect directly to your pc. The Pied Piper ( The Pied Piper - Welkom ) a small independent Dutch company with quite cheap and quite good speakers. BMC, Arcam, Cabasse, Sonos, Reimyo, Audio Note,... But the best of this floor and for me the BEST OF THE SHOW: TAD! Their smallest models were presented by the general manager for Europe. Although small doesn't mean really small: ??????TAD-CR1?TAD This monitor weighs over 100 lbs and has an 8" woofer. Electronics from TAD were the D600 SACD-player, C2000 pre, and M600 poweramp. All together costing way more than a Mercedes S-class, but definitely worth auditioning when shopping in this category. GENERAL IMPRESSION Less brands, less people than last year. Crisis? My surprise: TAD!
