I have purchased most of my stuff used. Speakers 25 to 30 percent, cables the same. Electronics 40 percent or so the more expensive the electronics the less percentage.

Now what I was getting at is let's say I bought an Accuphase amp, and maybe for financial reasons, had to sell. The amp was made for the US market with the proper voltage. It has the warranty and is backed by the distributor and can be serviced by the national service center, Accutech.

There shouldn't be a problem, right? No, there shouldn't. But you have these snakes and weasels berating you about how they can get it for so much cheaper from Japan and blah blah blah. And that you priced your unit too high. Despite the risks that involves; sending big money overseas, voltage difference, little or no warranty, no parts availability, etc. So, with that in mind, would that notion ruin the resale value of an Accuphase unit here in the US because you pay more here for new than in Japan.

I just want an honest answer, please. Good, bad, or otherwise. Thanks again...

Dave - unfortunately when selling used gear you usually will encounter those 'shoppers' that will berate your pricing for any number of reasons. With imported gear like Accuphase this does often involve the direct Japanese pricing comparisons even though the risks that you have identified are real and significant. Unfortunately it can affect the resale value since the US pricing is so much higher than that in Japan, but serious buyers will realize the benefits of buying a certified US unit that can be serviced if the need arises. So the bottom line is that you have to find the right buyer that understands the problems in buying a grey market product, particularly with products at this price level.

In Japan Accuphase directly sells from the factory to appointed retailers.
Outside Japan there is always a distributor involved, who also has to provide for service and spare parts (even after 20+ years). The prices outside Japan are approx. double the Japanese inland market prices.
You can buy products in Japan to use outside Japan on your own risk, i.e. there will be no warranty and eventually even no paid service. See

BTW Accuphase keeps track of each serial number and the country of destination. If unsure about potential grey market devices, I'd suggest you contact the distributor in your country.

Ok, thanks for your kind words. That makes sense. Outside of going to a Japanese dealer directly and buying it, these internet companies are not that buyer friendly, and some charge a finders fee.

I see. Thank you for that. To be honest, I was gonna buy from one of the internet sites because of the cheaper price. I then read the fine print and said "no way." Nevertheless, I have found a US dealer that willing to give me a good price. So most likely I'll buy from him.
