Yes set bias no differently than before.

Let the amp run for at least an hour. My REF75 needed no adjustment with the new tubes.

Good afternoon Maxflo.

Are you inquiring as to re-biasing the amplifier's ARC KT120's, or Is it your intention to insert and bias the as yet, non ARC sanctioned, KT150's ?

The procedure , as per the handbook, would be the same for either scenario. However, a definitive, and ARC official, KT150 bias value for the master, and bias range for the slave output valves continues to be a closely guarded secret , second only to the location of the Death Star.

I am thinking about KT150 as 2000h of my KT120s just come. I have second set of KT120s now but wonder if KT150 would be better:-)

Hi Priaptor,

Did you have any issues with the KT150s touching the top of the casing on your Ref 75 and does the top get very hot?

There is just enough clearance, however, I don't use the cage. I just leave the cage off. If you are worried, just leave the cage on without screws when not in use and take it off when using. However, I don't see a problem if you want to use the cage.

There is room with the top on. I compared the measured temperature with the top on and KT150's vs. others who had KT120s. (You want to be sure people measure the temperature the same way). Using a meat thermometer in contact with the grill just above the tubes, it was the same temperature with either tubes (about 130-135). It actually feels hotter above the 6550 tube on my Ref 5 SE than the Ref 75 with KT 150s!

I think going to KT150s is a no brainer. The additional cost per tube is offset by the additional lifetime of the tube. That makes the improved sonics a simple win.

Do you leave the cover off for sonic reasons? Appearance?

I am bummed that the KT-150 was a no go in my Ref 110s according to Kalvin via e-mail. I am going to call and speak to him in person. My guess is they just haven't tried them in the Ref 110 since it's not a current production amp and they don't want to bother finding out but if I can get them to test it out for me, I would much prefer to retube with the KT-150s than the KT-120s. Initial response though is not encouraging

Can you tell me where you found the information on tube life for the KT120s and 150s? I have not been able to find anything.
