Ok. Even if they are a design afterthought, spikes are part of a mechanical system. How the complete system acts determines the perception of the spikes' effect. Whether or not it is good or bad is determined by the entire mechanical system, not by whether the spike as an independent entity more solidly connects to the floor.

Those with expensive/exotic wood floors need to protect them from the damage spikes can do.
What is suggested in this case?
