I can't believe this. So, are you telling me I did not hear a difference and my buddy did not either?

Not at all! Just wanting to know what the difference is that the CD mat makes.

I know the Burmester has digital out- if you were to record 4 tracks, (2 with the mat and 2 without it) and post as unlabeled files, I think it would be sorted out pretty quickly and effectively!
If I hear a positive improvement, why would I have to prove it to anyone else?

My system only has to make me happy.

Do not take it as an insult if we think that it does not make anything.
You surely knows what a placebo effect is ? We do not question your honesty / integrity.
I personally think that the mat can change the sound of a cd player. Better ? Don't know. Different ? Probably.
But my feeling is that the Ayre " cleaning system" tones cd is just a placebo.

Jerome, I can't speak for the Ayre cd, but I have used and heard with my own ears the benefits of the Isotek Full System Enhancer cd. Isotek are very open about how they devised the disc and it's purpose. I was amazed how was able to burn in my brand new Ayon CD-5s twice as fast using this cd! And it is invaluable to refresh my player after it's been sitting idle for a while. But you need not take my word for it, this cd has been widely reviewed.

From Isotek's website - "The Full System Enhancer CD is an intensive ‘workout’ for your audio system. The disc includes specially developed signals to help ‘run-in’ new equipment, as well as demagnetising existing hi-fi components and rejuvenating your entire system.

It is important to exercise an audio system across the full range of frequencies and amplitudes it may encounter in real life, and to this end the tones on this disc have been devised to cover the complete audio band from top to bottom, also ensuring that, for instance, high-amplitude signals are combined with high-speed ones.

In electronic terms, the required signals feature lots of high-speed activity coupled to some high-amplitude excursions. All of these signals have been produced according to strict mathematical criteria, so as to place the greatest stress on the important parts of a system – without, it is important to note, endangering any part of it."

In regard to cd mats, i'm more circumspect. My Ayon CD-5s uses a magnetic puck integrated into the heavy smoked acrylic lid which holds the cd firmly in place, whilst sealing out unwanted light and interference, so I think it depends on the player. I agree with a previous comment which suggested the Millenium mat would likely provide more benefit with less expensive transports. My 2 cents.

OK, rather than start a new thread, I thought I'd bring this old one back to life.

I have been trying to burn in my PS Audio P10 as I have been struggling with brightness and anemic bass since adding it to my system.

A buddy let me try his "Irrational But Efficacious" CD. I am NOT a foil hat guy, and have always been very skeptical of tweaks.

I'm not sure what to think, but the system sounds considerably better. Could it be timing, who knows. I scratching my head a little at this voodoo.

The only thing that makes sense to be how frequency sweeps could improve your sound as a "housekeeping item" is with speaker components and coils with magnets could get sluggish over time? Possibly running a sweep of a range of frequencies helps overcome this somehow.

Who knows. I do appreciate how Charles Hansen doesn't pretend to know how this may work, just that he has found it effective.

Still not sure what to think, but I wonder if any others out there have played this CD and heard any improvements.

So knowing that there is no audio signal going through the P10, do you think the issues you had were elsewhere in your system?

I don't have the disc you own but I have the Isotek/Esoteric disc and trust it helps break in gear/cables just a little faster. Whether it actually works or not isn't that important since I already own it and it doesn't hurt to use it.
