Going to cable/sat from bal-1 2 ch bypass correctly reverts to hdmi, only the dvd input won't remember it's hdmi setting. Of course I only have to press the hdmi button after this switch, but it's a pain. My previous firmware didn't do this. Any comments guys?
Perhaps you have the "sticky" setting on. In any even, what does the new upgrade do to the SP3?

The good news is that the users can do the upgrade themselves without having to take the unit to a dealer.
There is another thread about a particular brand/model (not a Bryston) has to be taken to a dealer to have this done!
Here is one suggestion for future models:
Since the unit is connected to the Internet, Bryston can send the latest firmware on-line directly to the unit. The user will get a warning/notification that new firmware is available for installation.

For extra money, sure.

My newest digital devices now do the upgrades over the Internet and they cost a fraction of what the SP3 cost. That said, the price increase, if any, should be insignificant considering the 10 grand price tag of the unit.

Just remember, the SP3 came out in late 2011 or 2012. Everything improves in electronics over time.

Agree 100%! On the same vein, with time, pricing increases as well. So we might as well request what consumers want to see: better ways to do firmware upgrades.

True. By the way, what speaker configuration do you have, 5.1 or 7.1? If you have 7.1, have you ever tried listening to stereo in Stereo7 7.1?

I have not tried it because I have a 5.1 configuration. I usually listen to music in analog bypass mode.

I've listened to two channel music in 5.1. It's ok, although I keep to 2.1 for much better sound stage in stereo.

Anyone had issues playing AAC encoded files? Some seem to work and some don't. I've got the latest firmware. I have to set my media player to decode instead of passthru, otherwise I get no audio. The display flicks on and off when you try an adjust the volume.

Feedback from Bryston suggests that AAC has many versions and not all are supported...
