Default decisions, decisions

Thanks for opening up a discussion on the Aurender units. They are the manufacturer of my choice, but can't get straight on holding out for the W20 and the clock capability, as I will be adding a Esoteric G-01 clock in the near future ,or going with the X100 as you have chosen.

Did you consider these two units in your decision and, if so, what where the determining factors in going with the X100 in lieu of the W20.

I am also interested in your NAS structure as that is an area of complete inexperience for me. How do you suggest I structure external back-up?

Thanks again for the thread. One of the more personally useful threads of late.

Good question amorrisjr. I have felt the same way but also consider the X100 gives like 90% of the performance of the W20 at almost 1/6th the price. Yes you get isolated battery power and the absolute best tech they have but you cannot deny the value of the X100. Personally I am getting one of the X100's for now just to enjoy and let the technology evolve. My guess is there will be a W10 or an improved S10v2 with the clock function. Aurender is expanding their lineup quickly.

So what are your impressions so far? I just pulled the trigger on the N100S (with built-in 1TB SSD). I finally got tired of dealing with the MacMini/JRiver combo. It's been great, but it's still prone to crashing and I want a one-box plug and play unit. I didn't want to spend the extra money for the S10 yet so I'm just sticking my toe in the water to see how I like it.

Mr. Big, I didn't want to deal with multiple devices throughout my house. I want a one box solution and the MB100 doest this completely and the Aurender X100 does it almost. It is missing an internal DAC. But, that's not an issue of you can connect the USB cable to a DAC such as a McIntosh D100/150 or its MCD line of spinners and of course, their DAC PreAmps such as the C2500.

What I like so far, and this is from what I have read and in conversations whither Aurender owners is the build quality. I also like its small footprint too.

Again, i have to say, I really love my MB100 now but it has taken a serious undertaking to understand the unit and an OS update to make this thing whistle!

Once I receive my Aurender X100, I will loop back with my experience. It does come with a 1TB HDD and I plan to replace that with a 1TB SSD. I see no point of HDDs any longer.

Ah, thanks. I thought maybe you've already taken delivery. Yes, I'd like to know what you think.

I have had a X100, 6Tb, for almost a year now. I have enjoyed the unit greatly and only needed tech support a time or two. Right now I'm dealing with Tech support over the AMM software on my mac, it won't connect to my Synology NAS for some reason. As for sound quality the X100 is fantastic. I just set it up for Tidal streaming a few days ago and that is not going to smoothly, drop outs like crazy every day, not sure where that problem is coming from yet.

The unit I purchased I intend to not NAS. Just connect to a DAC/MX70. The form factor is ideal for that pairing.

I wanted to play around with the AMM software and NAS route as a friend of mine is considering the N100 and wanted to see what it would be like to use. Well I can't get it to work that way so now he isn't so sure about the purchase. I agree I like the idea of having the hard drives built in and my music stored local on the X100.

Since I do not have my Aurender yet, can you tell me more about the AMM software?
