Business strategy dont allow this. Why? Cause other brands already selling dual format (SACD/CD) in their top combos. Accuphase DP800/DC801, Meitner CDSD se/DCC2se are good examples. Unless McIntosh is comfortable with losing business opportunities!

Unless we are talking about McIntosh foray into Bluray CD, if there is such a product under development

Disc spinner technology is just about maxed out. The next logical step is fully balanced digital steaming processors. Linn already has their line of DS processors with hardly any competition right now.

I think DS is basically streaming ripped info wirelessly, aka like the current HDD servers we have. Hardly any competition does not means it is at the forefront of technology. It could mean there is not much biz opportunity.

Anyway, that is my small view of things. I could be wrong.

Whatever it is, I have too large a collection to forego for any new technology. Indeed my MS750 had taught me a painful lesson that ease of use does not meant getting the high fidelity production I seek. And ripping 760 CDs is a long daunting task which I will not repeat. Putting a disc into a player is still that much more enjoyable.

The digital streaming processors eliminates the transport which is a major source of sound issues. Once the transport has been removed from the big picture then the technology can focus on improving the DACs- at least that's logic behind the idea. Not much is available right now from the Linn super rez download web site- that will dramatically change in the future as this new technology matures. I've auditioned the Linn Klimax DS processor using downloads from the super rez master recordings from Linn's own label and it's by far the best sound that I've ever heard from any source component- period. The price for one of those Klimax processors here in the colonies is $20k.

Linn stuff are NEVER cheap ... not even their entry level!

Glad I had my LP12 wwwwaaaayyyyy before the pricing craziness sets in! If not, I would not have been able to own it!

Hmmm, come to think of it, should give it a spin, at least the spindle needs a work out! Got to do that tomorrow!

But the Akurate and Climax DS's are a LOT less money.
