The week of celebration continued with last night's dinner. I met a friend at Empire Steak House in Manhattan (the west side location; there's one on the east side as well); neither of us had been there before. The service was great, the food was great and the company was superb. She's planning to relocate back to the Caribbean at the end of June next year, so I'm hoping we can get a few of these get-togethers in before that.

We both ordered the sirloin steak, which was great taste-wise; I'd planned to get salmon originally, but once there decided, "Well, it's a steak house!". Mine had some gristle in a couple of bites, which I seemed to have forgotten steak can have. That was awkward to deal with. The lighting, while nice and cozy, made it difficult to see it. Portions for the sides were nice, and though one person could handle them, were big enough to share. I think I'll go back to try the salmon and the carrot cake (wondering how the carrot cake will stack up against my mother's).

The focus is now on Saturday, the last day of birthday celebration, with my friend from church coming over to help with the apartment. Haven't made the progress I'd like, but I still have today and tomorrow morning. Onward!

And to put a pin on the week, yesterday the friend from church mentioned previously came over to help me with my apartment. I'd done most of the work related to putting it back together after the A/C installation, so we tackled my computer desk. I can actually see the desk now! A lot of stuff was recycled or tossed, and I now have a better sense of purpose regarding the apartment in general. Still some things to sort out (what to do with all the extra power cords is one), but I feel better about the place right now, and need to keep that ruthless mentality about the stuff (clutter) so I can keep things from getting out of hand.

And, for the first time since the end of June, I played the system. She had to leave, so it was only a couple of tracks from concert videos (plus a couple more after she left), but it seemed to me the system sounded better than before. I don't know whether to trust that, but that's how it seemed. It actually sounded more articulate than before, maybe a bit more real at times. I did increase toe-in slightly with the speakers, but no adjustments other than that. More time with the usual test tracks may tell me something.

Didn't crack the cheesecake last night, so I'm planning to do that today. Back to regular business tomorrow!

The cheesecake is very good. I had two slices Sunday and then put it back into the freezer. It's a 9" cake, and figuring 8 slices that's a quarter of the cheesecake I ate. I was going to get another (probably pumpkin) for Thanksgiving, but maybe I should just save this chocolate cherry one for then.

Today, laundry(?) and pancakes. Back to work tomorrow.
