I plan to put one on a finite elemente rack and the other atop a custom made cabinet with all my equipment inside it. Wish I could put them on identical stands but it just doesn’t work in my room set up.

I will eventually get around to pictures, but I can say that from hour 1, the Ref 160ms were more transparent than the Ref 150 (with KT150s) and, as monoblocks, they are naturally better at imaging with a better soundstage. The dynamic presentation is about the same but with slightly more definition at the low end. Of course, it is still early at about 50 hours--there is more to come with break-in. As of right now, I'd say the Ref 160ms provide a 10-15 percent improvement in the overall quality of sound of the Ref 150 (with KT 150s). I say that mainly because the Ref 150 was one of the finest amplifiers I have ever heard, regardless of price so incremental improvements become harder to achieve. I suspect that the same would hold in comparison with the Ref 150SE give or take 2 percent.

Hi ,

Did you try listening to them in triode mode ? Had a chance to listen to them 2 weeks ago and the midrange is to die for when it’s at triode .

Hi tdh888:
Only for about an hour and the midrange was beautiful, but the dynamics suffered quite a bit. But I will listen to triode more as time goes on.

What has been said before is really true, i have spent only 250 hours listening to mostly Jazz music;i could characterize sound as Open, Natural resolving without being analytical or dry, preserving details in music and above all give an impression as if you are listening to a hybrid amp(non tube amp vs warm, bloom, chested mac tube amp)
I have paired it with Ref 6,Oppo and Focal scala V2 speakers and BW 802D3
I am enjoying Sacd issued from japan and UHQmqa issued CDs

regards,
Sami
