Dan why am I not surprised that you would have a review on radar detectors and I am glad you do as you have done the research for me. I have had several passport radar detectors over the years. I presently have a MAX2 in my Maserati and a 8500 in my Z06 Corvette. I agree the 360 is huge . I am looking to replace my 8500 and delegate it to rental car service when I go to Florida or motorcycle. The MAX2 with gps and bluetooth has spoiled me but is discontinued. The 360 is too big and the 360c looks nice but $699 compared to $399 I have to wonder are direction arrows important ? I mean if the radar detector goes off I'm slowing down either way. The updating of the radar detector over wifi is not something I care about either. So based on your recommendation its Uniden R3; thanks for the advice again.

David.......I have been completely satisfied with the performance of the Uniden R3. There was a recent firmware update that I downloaded that added a few features and increased the size of the frequency readout on the display. Updates are simple and easy by connecting the R3 to a computer with a USB cable. Uniden is very responsive to the radar geek community, a group of people who do real-world testing and offer recommendations to them. The R3 sensitivity is amazing. I get alerts long before I can even see a patrol car. I don't miss my Escort at all.

I purchased an R3 after Dan’s recommendation & review. The sensitivity, programmability, and filtering is amazing! It easily finds cops 2-3 miles ahead. Well worth the price.

Not to be a downer but my uniden R3 came in yesterday and it’s goimg back today. The gps lock out doesn’t work as well as my passport and the build quality feels better on the escort as well . I ordered a escort passport 360c and am getting a trade in on a older dectector . The escort ends up costing $200 more than the uniden but I missed not having some of the feature my max 2 has including the phone app which uploads stop light camera information and laser locations automatically . I m looking forward to the arrows as well, I guess I had my mind made up without realizing it. Good bye Uniden hello Passport 360 C

David.......Interesting move. I guess it all boils down to personal preference.

As for the GPS lockout feature, it is manually set on the Uniden R3 with a double tap of the Mute button. The Escort will lockout signals after three or more passes by a signal that does not move from its GPS point, or you can perform a manual lockout. The lockout feature works perfectly on the R3 but it isn't automatic.

Build quality is a subjective assessment in my opinion. Heavier, bulkier, larger are not necessarily true indications of build quality in my estimation. The Uniden R3 is much smaller, and consequently lighter in weight. I like the easier concealability. Build quality is more than satisfactory in my opinion.

Wishing you the best with the MAX360C. Lots of users like it, but it doesn't hold a candle to the long range detection capabilities of the Uniden R3. I will be looking forward to your comments on the MAX360C.

Is Dan on commission? He should be. His write ups are always compelling.
