ARC Ref 6 w Pass Labs XA200.8 powering Magico M3. If I had the cash I would have bought the combo on the spot. Incredible soundstage where I was enveloped in the music.

An ARC pre and Ayre amp is a fairly popular combination for those who like the accuracy of solid state with a bit more sustain and color of tubes. I'm not sure it will be more bass but probably slightly richer bass. The midrange is where the tubes will shine. Is there a dealer near you who sells both so that you can hear for yourself?

My Speakers are Neat Ultimatum MF5. Recently I took at home Vitus Ri-100 and it gives more strong bass. But in the same time HF and MIDS accuracy (and the scene) is on a poor level comparing to KX-5/VX-5 twenty (some time i even thought that there were distortion with Ri-100). Ayre is one of the best in terms of accuracy and tonal neutrality. I revaluted this amplification. Its very good. Also I used RI-100 preamps section with VX-5 and found that VX-5 has strong bass and grip when appropriate preamp is used. But I also willing to get the second VX-5 for bi-amp Last edited by Gibalok; 02-25-2020 at 05:51 AM. |

I just brought in an ARC Reference 6 to pair with my Gato PWR 222 monos. Quite a nice synergy going on. In particular, the sound stage has deepened significantly-almost holographic.
Something magic about a tube preamp and a ss amp, especially when extra power is needed for hungry speakers.

The Luxman might be a bit better on micro details but I still need more time with it.

[QUOTE=GreginNH1;996794]I had the Luxman CL-38u SE. It was a great preamp for the money. I am still evaluating the ARC. It definitely has more body, weight and better soundstaging.
-----and for cool 3K you could get on SE upgrade waiting list. |
