Default Shunyata PC burn in.

I see that most seem to use or suggest using a fan for the burn/break in of thie power cords. A few questions:

What power adapters are you using?
Anyone ever try using something like a refrigerator, any downside or negative effects if going this route?

Hey Don,

We have tested everything from heaters and refrigerators to dedicated "burn-in devices". We have found that the best and easiest method to burn-in power cords is with a fan. A fan pulls current across the whole AC waveform and the current draw is significant. Second best is a high wattage lamp like a shop lamp or halogen.

Heaters and refrigerators cycle on/off so they only pull current when cycled on. This takes longer to burn-in the cord.

There are NO high-end cable burn-in devices that I am aware of that have enough current output to properly burn-in power cables. And yes, I have tried them all. We have considered building a device specifically for PCs but the fan seems to do the trick.

We manufacture a burn-in adapter that allows you to daisy-chain power cords together into a single line. Many of our dealers already have a set of these. This allows you to burn in multiple power cords with a single circuit and single fan.

Rob, funny you posted this. I too have not a single fan in my home. Got rid of the clutter several years ago when I added central heating and air.

The bad news is that you got rid of it. It is good to know that you are not one of those "I had better hold on to it, as you never know when you will need it" guys. I hate clutter and prefer things looking sparse.

The good news is that you may be able to pick up a fan on a deep "long after the end of the summer season" discount!

Another way of looking at it is a $19.95 audio tweak that is guaranteed to improve the sound of your system! We would all get behind you in line for that one!!!

Have fun shopping!

Best,
Rob

Here's where I landed with the new Z-Tron PCs.

CD/SACD Player = 2 meter Alpha
Tube preamp = 2 meter Cobra
Two (2) 75 watt tube amps = 1.8 meter Pythons
Hydra AV = 2 meter Python

That's how I'm rolling. I'll be burning in these PCs and the new Hydra all week.

Yeah, well ... one thing I accomplished is that the entire line of PCs are the new Z-Trons. I did it this way, based on correspondence here from Coopersark and perhaps others, who believe the effect of staying in the same line, in this case Z-Trons, from tip to toe is the way to go.

Also, the way they are laddered, if I want at some time in the future to go up a notch but still remain in the same line, then I could, for instance, upgrade the main 20 amp PC on the wall to an Anaconda. Or I could swap up on the preamp to a Python, or from there I could swap up to Anacondas on the amps or the preamp. I mean, there are a lot of options built into the order in which I build this ladder within the family of Z-Tron PCs.

But for now, I'm still waiting on the rest of the PCs to arrive. And the otherwise insufferable burn-in should be remedied to some extent with the arrival of the burn-in adaptors. So I'm working my way through it.

It's way too early to report anything by way of impressions, but when I installed the Z-Tron Alpha on my player, albeit with my existing tried-and-true non-matching PCs, I heard very good things right out of the chute. So that's an auspicious beginning, one that bodes well for things to come.

I can only imagine your excitement and anticipation! What's more, even after you wire everything up, you will notice even more improvement over the following three to four weeks as things settle in and get even sweeter and more natural sounding. I see a sleepless weekend ahead for you! Enjoy!
Best,
Rob

As far as fans go, all I can say is that I am a big, big fan of Shunyata!
