Thanks,

I'm running even lower sensitivity Dynaudio's with MC75 mono-blocks. I too was concerned about the amps not having enough power. True, I have to turn up the volume a little more than with the previous B&W's, but at 60 on the preamp it's too loud in my room. Hurts my ears. Disclaimer: this is a small room. A large room may well indeed need more power. And you can always mono-block 2 MC275's

When I spoke to Dynaudio in Europe they simply said "give it a try".

Try the MC275 before going solid state. If it’s not loud enough you only need add another.

Very nice post Tom. Glad you’re loving you c2300. Even happier that your son is enjoying the system too. If our hobby is to survive we need to expose today’s youth to it. Well done sir.

There is a difference between playing music loud and deep clean effortless powerful bass that comes from a 500-600 watt mono amp. This was the first thing I noticed with the MC501's and have stopped looking other amps. ever since. Everyone I know who had the MC275 eventually sells them after the romance wears off and buys either the MC2301 or sold state amp.

Tom--I can't quite remember every combination/comparison I made while shopping, but--at least for me--a subwoofer is absolutely essential, even with a solid state amp and/or floor standers such as your 804s. So my MC275 is supplemented by the 1000W Class D amp in the DB3D.

Obviously the subwoofer amp is a no match in general for the MC275. But it takes the low end load off the main amp, and in combination with the speakers delivers deep bass richness that cannot be matched.

An MC275 with a sub versus a pair of MC275s would be an interesting comparison.

Have fun with this!

Tom,
Thanks for sharing such a great story. Congratulations again on the McIntosh C2300. I've owned one for several years now and still love it. For the past few months I've toyed with the idea of trading it for a C1100 but so far I'm not convinced that is my best option to get the best bang for the buck. The C2300 is a fantastic preamp and looks beautiful in any system. I hope it brings you many years of musical bliss. Enjoy.

I run a pair of REL G1’s off my pair if MC275LE’s with Focal Utopia Scalas. This is the best of both worlds.

Tom,
Thanks for posting a great story. I'm glad you are enjoying your C2300.
It is a very capable piece of gear with a great phono section.
I am running an MC 275 with some fairly inefficient speakers and it gets plenty loud.
Tom

Love my C2300/MC2102 combination. Using Dynaudio Focus 110 speakers.
