what is the difference inside of Analog vs Digital PC
Hi,
Ok it may be company secret, so let me ask a more general questions 1. sans the filter circuit that tuned to kill difference freq. , is the wire, the cable the same ? between Alpha Digital and Alpha Analog ? 2. How harmful, sonically, to use Digital cable with analog equipment and v.v. ? 3. Is it ok to use my unused Alpha digital with my phono preamp, for example, compared to using std. cable with phono preamp. thanks Toga |

My understanding is that the filter circuits are active over different frequency bands, and the rest of the cable construction is identical between Alpha Analog and Digital.
My experience is that the differences are component / system sensitive. Sometimes I hear little difference, sometimes more. Whenever I hear more difference, it is always in favour of the Digital. On linear power supplied analogue circuit components, I usually get the best result from using an Alpha HC: I find the difference between an Alpha HC and an Alpha Analog to be greater than the difference between an Alpha Digital and an Alpha Analog. My perception, based on my experiences, is that the component being powered is strongly influenced by the current delivery of the power cable. The other components in the system are being influenced by the frequency filtering of the cable. I don't know what phono preamp you ended up with (I remember you were looking at a few options for your new vinyl setup), but my Burmester 100 is sensitive to the amount of HF noise on the AC line, yet also responds to optimum current delivery. The Alpha HC is the minimum I need, as I lose dynamics with either the Alpha Analog or Digital in comparison. But that's just me. Try different combinations to see how ell the Alpha Digital works with your phono pre - you can't cause any harm |

use it on your tt motor.

Hi, mine is run on battery. I use std. cord with TT motor battery charger.

And I think most of the sound is not because of the noise killing property, but the cable construction overall. My phono pre is Accuphase C37 which is on separated ac circuit. any noise from it will not harm other equipment. This way I believe Alpha Digital should be usable with C37 and I tried, it is nice any way. I am upgrading my CD Transport PC from Alpha Digital to something else, while I don't have good PC for phono pre yet, so I wanted the Alpha Digital to work well with my phono pre, that will save me some $$. For the past week I was auditioning the Alpha HC power cords on my amps and the Alpha digital on my Meridian. For the first couple of days I swapped the HC back and forth with my Transparent Powerlink MM2x's. I then put the Digital in and left it there for the blaance of the audition. I liked the digital even though I am not sure now much of an impact it was having. I am going to hold off and possibly try the Sigma digital. The Alpha HC's seemed to benefit vocals but they couldn't hang in with the MM2x in the bass region.
I do like what Shunyata is trying to do with their cables. Just may have to find the right application. |

Hi Jim,
Sigma Digital on 808.3 and Sigma Analog on preamp and Sigma HC on monoblocks should be an extremely potent combo. But if starting out with Sigma, preamp and source first. Bear in mind that Alpha digital/analog only have the current capacity of a Zitron Cobra if that means anything to you. The Sigmas are more potent on current as well as having the latest version of filters. Last edited by Crion; 05-04-2015 at 12:33 PM. |

Toga, if your Accuphase phono is galvanically connected to your preamp, then they are no longer on separate circuits

Sigma HC from power conditioner to power amp (Burmester 911) was a profound change. Then did Sigma HC from wall to power conditioner (Burmester 948), Sigma Analog to preamp (Burmester 088), Sigma Digital to DAC (MSB Plat IV Sig). Each of which provided incremental gains. So likely system / component dependant. But if I was to start with one, I would always start with the Sigma HC. |
