weapons training
who has had professional firearms (handguns) training?
mine: US Army basic pistol course (very basic target shooting, not combat) some practical stuff in unit (still nowhere as good as what you can buy) still 1911A1 back then, not the M92 Gunsite Pistol 150 (intro) 3 days Concealed carry pistol 2 days 250 defensive pistol 5 days 350 intermediate (used to be advanced) 5 days now there is an advanced 499 irrc that I would like to take I also try to shoot 1/month with some local cops, usually 100 rounds or so from concealment (jacket, sweater/sweatshirt) with a timer, close range <7 yards... I wouldn't say I'm proficient, but merely competent I'm in PA and training is not CCW requirement...yet

Training is required in Ohio (where I am) and I have taken the advanced courses but I used to shoot competively about 15 years ago (IPSC - Class C). I don't anymore because ammo is just too expensive for me, even reloading.

Only criminals and those who chase them (I say that advisedly) can carry here in NJstan, where home invasions are on a strong up-trend. That aside, have been through the basic and advanced NRA rifle, pistol and shotgun courses. Once am retired at the end of this calendar year, will finish up the range safety officer training. Doubt that I will go for couselor, but will go through PA's training for a CCW license.

The last decade at least twenty five firearm training classes lasting 2-5 days each. The instuction was from Scott Reitz/Louis Awerbuck/Jeff Gonzales.
If things are going normal i'll be at the range 1-2 times a week. One indoor, the other an outdoor police range. If i'm not going to the range I put in extra time dry firing. Shooting is a very perishable skill, you don't want to find that out the hard way.

Practice Makes Perfect, really rings true, regarding firearms handling,

I dry fire sometimes just to retain the motion memory... I have a belt timer (20+ year old PACT), 2 shots from real concealment (as I would carry daily) <2 sec, 1st is usually 1.5 or so... what guv model is that in your avatar? I have a nice rig old LB commander 45/alloy Rosen ARG rig/belt.lined/pouch...all black horsehide... my daily carry is not as nice: a Galco (I think) suede IWB pouch, modified for a slant and higher grip, HK P7 not easy to reholster, but I figure if I 'pull', when finsihed, I'll be horizontal or sitting with the mag out, weapon slide locked back, in plain view, hands exposed, waiting for the coppers (and my legal beagle), lol

I only own one gun, but I own eight of them set up exactly the same way, Les Baer TRS. I put xxx number of rounds through a gun then I sell it to a friend, and replace it with a new one. I have no idea why I ever got fixed of eight.
I don't, and won't, own any other handgun because I want all my guns to feel exactly the same to me. I don't want to pick up a gun and have even the slightest feeling that something is not right. I only use Lou Alessi products, belt/holsters, unless i'm at the range and it's kydex. And, you assume correctly. But, it's only because i've put the work in.
