Default C47 Passthrough Mode Trigger Wire Type When Connecting to Marantz Receiver

I just ordered one of the new Marantz NR1711 8k Receivers mostly just to use as an HDMI switch but I would like to connect it to my C47 for passthrough to my MC302.

The C47 manual says to use a stereo cable but the Marantz manual says to use a mono cable.

Does anyone know which cable I should use to properly trigger the passthrough mode?

What I mean by this: the trigger switches on the mac when the marantz switches on, but does it set it to the correct inout and volume also?

First a bit about McIntosh 1/8 stereo power control cables. The Tip is amplifier power, the ring is meter control. +12V is on, 0 Vdc is off.

The pass through input on McIntosh preamps, when activated, (+12VDC on tip) does the following things:
1. Turns on the preamp power.
2. Sets the audio input to the passthru input. Sometime this can be assigned, sometimes it is fixed. The owner’s manual describes how to do this.
3. Sets the gain from the passthru audio input to preamp output to 0 dB.

So if your pre/pro has a power control output that supplies 12 Vdc when the pre/pro is on all you need to do is connect it to the McIntosh preamp HT passthrough connector.

I don’t know if the meter control signal is used in the pass through control input. I don’t believe it does on my MX 151 / C1100 combo as I am using all stereo cables and I can’t control the meters on the main power amps via the MX 151 meter control function.

I tried it with a mono cable. It works but the meters on the amp don't turn on. I guess if you want to set it up so that the meters are off automatically in home theater mode you can use a mono cable with a Marantz Receiver/Pre.

I've ran into this problem mixing non-Mac equipment with Mac, using a stereo cable into a non-Mac trigger causes the meter illumination to not work, although that may be a plus for home theater mode.

The solution I used was a stereo to dual mono Y adapter, such as the "Hosa YMM-261 3.5 mm TRS to Dual 3.5 mm TSF Stereo Breakout Cable". The male stereo end plugs into the C47, the mono female "tip" socket is the trigger out to the non-Mac equipment.
