Default Thanks John

Great feedback, John - thanks! As for digital, I failed to mention that I also have a Mytek Brooklyn Bridge as part of my setup. Wireless streaming at high resolution over mconnect app. - sounds sweet.

Default C2300 vs C1100 Pre

John (and others) - I'm interested in what advantages you see with the C1100 vs. my current C2300? Thanks!

My C 1100 is cleaner overall and much quieter than my C 2300. The C 1100 doesn’t really have an appreciable ‘tube sound’.

I agree with Tom. While I probably wrote in these pages that I would keep my C2300 forever, I did sell it for the C-1100. The C-1100 was clearly better in every way. Most notably for me, the soundstage was bigger on all directions.

If you have the means, it is a great upgrade.

TB-

Not much more than I can add to what Tom and Craig have mentioned.

When auditioning a 2500 and 1100 back to back, as Craig stated, everything opened up big time. The 2500 sounded congested. Also, as Tom alluded to, the 1100 is not a "tubey" sound; not that the 2500 (or I guess the 2300) is. It's not the "peaky" sound sometimes associated with transistor units either. Just very clean and clear. Oh, it's two boxes with twelve tubes so another factor in the overall equation.

Bottom line, it's all in the listen. Well worth the visit to a dealer who can accommodate the audition. Also important is having this arena where we discuss and debate our researched opinions and celebrate our preferences all while benefiting from each others trial and error. One last thing, remember the astute key words, "it's all system dependent."

Enjoy the Sounds!

Not trying to hijack the subject, more like keep the thread going, after all the title is 275 club.
Question, what tube will you be trying when it comes time to replace...?
This is my first tube amp and I know I have many choices however no experience.
Idea, suggestions...?

My vote....Mc tubes. With that said, a lot of folks swear by the Gold Lion tubes.

I bought my Mc275 as new a few years back and recently had to get new tubes because the amp’s sound was louder on the left side. I changed the KT88s to golden lions and the small tubes to new issue ElectroH and Tungsol. Honestly after two months the Golden lion it seems is not better than the McIntosh tubes. Tonal character of the sound has changed a little but not better. It’s like shifting from strawberry to chocolate ice cream in a sundae, one is not better or worse than the other just different. That being said the MC factory tubes would seem to be as good as if not better than the golden lions. Price wise the golden lions are cheaper by $250 than the MC factory tubes when bought as new. If the Gold Lions last eight years like the MC tubes without a hitch then are equal.

I had a C2500 with two MC275 amplifiers, I don't regret buying it, they are part of the American classics!
