CD9 USB connection
Anyone tried using the USB port connection. Understand that you need to install the Audio Research custom ASIO drivers onto the PC before you can use the USB port. I tried the Audio Research web-site but couldn't find any ASIO driver software for CD9. Appreciate advice from experts and owners on how can I get a copy of this software.
Thank You & have a good day FG |

Driver came on CDROM. In my configuration i USD a Mac mini with audioquest diamant USB. iTunes filled with Apple mpeg4a. Sound quality is ok, but i prefer cd. But with the iPad remote app it's quite comfortable.

Got hold of the CDROM yesterday and loaded the software into my Mac book Air, connected up to the CD9 and tried a couple of tracks using itune. I would agree that sound is ok but seems to lack details and focus soundstaging compared the the same CD that I downloaded to the Mac book.
Plan to get a mac mini and a better USB cable this weekend to kickstart my next phase of computer music |

You need also a mediaplayer that is Asio compatible or has Asio plugin. That way dac (cd9) is locked to same frequency with the musicfile that you are playing. With Mac I guess this thing is different?

I have compared usb direct connection versus through a converter from Berkeley and it sound much better versus direct. So it's worth a try if you are seriously considering computer music. Your choice of using Mac mini as the transport is good and you may also give linear psu a try. Cheers~

Appreciate all advices and comments, will play around with different combinations and set-ups prior finalising the one that suit my taste best. I just bought the mac mini yesterday and will replace the 1TB harddisk with a 512k SSD and used the current HD as external HD. Will also replace the current 2 x 4GB ram to 2 x 8 GB cards at the same time. Power supply will be next on the line.
I am now using the trial AudirvanaPlus interfacing with the Itune and it definitely sound better than Itune alone. I probably also look Jplay and others. Cheers |
