Default Dear Abby, I adore my wife and kids ...

... and they meant well and went out of their way. So I am in a real quandry because they go me this

as a gift. My daughter overheard me talking about doing some needle-drops and thought this would be a perfect gift (this thing can record from the LP to the CD).

It wasn't cheap either ($200). They said that I could return it, but I am not sure I can even consider this after they put so much thought into it.

Any "Dear Abby-like" suggestions from fellow AAers how to handle this gracefully?

Sincerely,

Surprised birthday boy

P.S. Who knew that Bed, Bath and Beyond carried this stuff. I guess this is the beyond they talk about.

You soooo have to keep it. Burn your daughter some CD's. Put it in a spare bedroom or something. The $200 is nothing in the land of $5000 power cords. Someday, you can take it to a charity and get a tax write off.

Alberto,

You've got to keep it buddy.

Someone gave my mom the exact same thing and she tried to give it to me recently, if I had known you wanted one I would have given it to you.

Alberto.......It is not the gift, it is the thought. Let them believe you treasure the gift they obviously wanted you to enjoy. Use it occasionally. It will make them smile. After all, that's all that really matters.

Soooooooo????? How does it sound?? You might need to do some room treatments, upgrade the power cord and add a PPP to bring out the best in this baby.
Being loved is what it is all about.

Making the kid happy is worth $200. If you do anything other than keep it, you will probably pay later.

I must admit I am having trouble finding a creative use for it though. That could maybe be a different thread.
