Alberto.......Another option for the home system would be to install the Manley EQ in an attractive cabinet, and place it next to your primary listening position. Then you could tweak it to your hearts content from the sweet spot, which is where you want the equalization in the first place.

Only for inferior source material. The MDA does an amazing job of taking the edge off crappy and/or compressed digital. Makes the unlistenable and fatiguing, listenable and non-fatiguing, but it cannot replace some of the "bloom" and flatness. The other half of the job is what I am working on. In my office system, I've done experiments with digital + EQ + tubes that, to my ears, have made listening to formerly unlistenable digital to something that sounds much better than it has any right to.

How does EQ + Tubes improve upon the sound of "unlistenable" digital better than the MDA1000?

In multiple ways. EQ can add body (e.g. midbass) in this recordings, tame shrill highs, etc. and tubes add bloom, dimensionality and warmth. The MDA is still playing a key role by smoothing out the original signal, but it's can't do much in terms of EQ or adding body. The impact of judicious use of EQ + tubes might be hard to describe and communicate using words, but impossible to refute when listening to the effect. And yes, it is an effect, a modification of the original sound as it was recorded, a set of distortions (although euphonious distortions to my ears.) For that reason I would only apply when the original source calls for it.
