Default Warming up....

As most experience, my ARC tube gear sounds better after an hour of warm up. However, I find that sitting idle doesn't do it, my system needs an hour of playing actual music. Anyone find warmup needs just idling vs playing ?

IMHO playing is better than idle as speaker cross overs also work as well as the rest of the system.

Number95.......The crossover warming up with a signal is something I had never considered before. That's a good point.

When I warm up my ARC tube gears during one hour remaining idle, I always need another half an hour playing before they come to their best. So I prefer leaving them half an hour warming up idle and half an hour playing.

And maybe it has something to do with the crossover warming up with a signal...

My McIntosh MC275VI tube amplifier needs essentially no warmup. After turning the unit on, it is fully operational in about 10 seconds. It does not sound any better with time.

Never tried just leaving my equipment on for an hour without playing music but after an hour of music playing everything falls into place and the system as a whole sounds much better. I am guessing that leaving the system on without playing music will only have a partial effect.

My ref3 sounds noticeably better after warming up for a bit. More so than my previous pre, an ls26.

I let mine warm up at idle, and do not notice a difference in sound once I start playing music.

I turn the system on a hour with the turner playing before I pour myself a Scotch (Highland Park works best when playing LP's with the Linn), the system aways sounds great!!
