TAD with McIntosh?

I do not in any way claim that my Mac monos were bad together with R1, it's probably just a matter of taste, perhaps even just small nuances.

Regarding 2301, I can not enough of it, so you may ask someone else to answer that question. However, my 1201 did not deliver the bass that I know R1 can perform so therefore I go with a more powerful amplifier. An amplifier that I know will make the base faster, more distinct.

I'll have to wait a few weeks if I am right in my thoughts and whether the match was successful.

Wild guess!
Would that be VTL or Krell? Both, maybe, in the lead in it's class regarding fast and distinct, tubes and transistors.

The VTL 450 Mono's are truly excellent on the TAD Ref One. One of my most emotional memory with any audio demo in the past 10 years (biggest VTL preamp also, and associated to a complete dCS front-end).

byZan, has Santa departed yet? What is the ETA?

Never been an ARC fan. I find them too bright especially in the upper mid and lower highs. I was told the extra boosted energy is dialed out with a more linear sound so considering ARC Ref250 mono for my TAD E1's.

I currently use MAC MC-601's with TAD Evolution One's with a very good result.

As you may already know, from an engineering standpoint, there is no reason why any modern high quality high current solid state amplifier would not work well with TAD speakers. Tube amps can work well too if carefully vetted with the speaker.

Since each amplifier can have it's own sonic signature, and high end gear can be expensive to change around, it's important to hear different combinations so you find the synergy you want.

I had a choice between Krell, Mark Levinson, Audio Research and McIntosh amplification. I don't consider any of these amps universally better all the time under all conditions. They all produced highly listenable results. In the end I felt the McIntosh offered not only very good sound, but the most build quality, power, resale value and reliability for my money.
