Thanks guys for all the tips and advice. I think we’ll be doing some test driving when we get home.

FWIW - We owned a 4-door w/hard top Jeep Wrangler for 10 years. Finally had enough so we sold it and bought a Toyota 4Runner Limited. We still have off-road capability with the 4Runner but it is a higher quality vehicle and much more refined and comfortable to drive. The Jeep was rough riding, noise, hot in the Summer (little to no insulation), and claustrophobic with the small front windshield. The 4Runner is also safer on the road since it has full-time 4Wheel drive and Torsen limited-slip differential.
I won't get into all the mechanical repairs we had with the Jeep. Last edited by BuffaloBill; 01-25-2019 at 07:45 PM. |

So we bought them both: a 2017 Hardrock (Rubicon) for me 4.5 lift and 37s on 18 inch rims and a 2015 Toyota 4-Runner TRD for her |

We test drove a new JL Sahara Unlimited yesterday. Very nice, if a bit noisier on the freeway than I’m used to. We looked at a JK as well, but like the style of the JL better, and some of the new features. We also looked at a Moab, which is very cool but has the soft top, which is noisier and isn’t as practical for our area. I think we’re close to a decision.

Serge, I’m not committed to existing inventory, but there’s plenty of availability with the features we’re interested in. The Moab though is not for us. It’s a very cool vehicle, but it’s basically a Sahara tricked out to look like a more serious off-road rig. It has more aggressive tires but doesn’t have the suspension of the Rubicon. Most of my wife’s driving will be country roads, not off-road, with some snow driving and occasionally we’ll take it on forest service roads, so the stock Sahara setup is about right for us.

I don’t think Ivan is going to mind me posting an external link to a Jeep forum? There is a thread you may want to check out that’s on the topic. https://www.jlwranglerforums.com/for...s-sahara.4034/

Pulled the trigger, here’s my wife’s new toy, a 2019 Safari JL with all mod cons:
