Default VTL TP2.5i

Recently picked up the VTL TP2.5i Phono - which is just out. It was announced and demo-ed at CES 2017 I believe but took longer to get out of the gate officially.

Just unpacked it today. Had to fiddle with jumpers under the hood to get the right settings - which is a pain for someone like me with fat fingers but once I dropped the needle, it was OMG good and everything was forgotten.

I’m almost afraid to bring it for a side by side shootout for my AudioResearch Ref 3 Phono.

Congrats! Would be interested in your comparison to the Ref 3 if you do that? I've been considering the 6.5 and if the 2.5 compares favorably then I'm guessing the 6.5 would be at least as good if not better than the Ref 3? Also ... how quiet is it? Thanks for your impressions!

That looks like a ClearAudio Innovation with Universal arm to me, excellent table. I would also be very interested in how the VTL compares to the Ref Phono 3. What cart are you using?

I will bring it home at some stage. Right now I have it in the work showroom. Been looking for a phono preamp for the ClearAudio to do it justice and I always liked tubes but couldn't spring for a PH9.

At home the Ref Phono 3 is partnered with my Acoustic Signature Thunder Mk2 with TA5000 12" tonearm/Kiseki Purple Heart NS and WandMaster 12" with Sumiko Pearwood Celebration II.

I wanted a dual input phono preamp with balanced circuitry to match the Ref 6 preamp/PS Audio BHK 300 Monos - so the Ref 3 was a clear choice. The Ref 3 was so good that I ended up getting the Ref 6 as my line stage preamp.

I'll run it in more at work before bringing it back. Just ordered a few more records. The MoFi Limited Edition Simon and Garfunkel should be in soon
