Hear hear. blighty had a very lucky draw, but we have made the most of it,despite the hated Stirling having a three course meal when he chances in to the penalty area. It will be between France and Belgium I feel, with the nod just going to France.

With Brazil gone, think I'd give the nod to boys from Flanders by just a bit, with Croatia lagging the field. Believe it is pretty much a 'coin toss' between Belgium, England & France, with Belgium having, perhaps, a very slight edge as they seem to be the faster/more active of the three, generating more opportunities. Unfortunately, I'll be away at my own matches during the games, so will have to depend on all of you for reports.

All teams have truly earned to be where they are. I would not underestimate Croatia, but would agree they are an underdog. They have shown a tremendous endurance, toughness and grit with two shootout wins. England seems to be playing a great natural game, with a good flow and confident vibe. France looks absolutely lethal. Belgium is an extraordinarily complete team. Whichever team can take their next two games will be a deserving champion.

De Bruyne has been the best all around player for me so far, though I know others may disagree. Kane and Mbappe know how to pounce on an opportunity and finish, for sure. Modric has been tireless... amazing energy late into extra time games.

Competition is wide open now. Belgium is my favourite although in spite of strong individuals, they don’t often fully gel. France has some wonderful players but again, temperament can let them down. England has a very good young attack, particularly from set pieces though I think the defence is vulnerable. Croatia is the weakest team on paper but they are not playing on paper! They are playing in front of some of the most passionate supporters who are worth at least one extra goal. It is in the lap of the gods now.

I would love to see England “bring football home” for the first time since 1966

With this group of teams being so closely defined it would be fun if it were a round-robin among the final four.
