Here's One;
An American, Scotsman and City Banker are having a drink in a central london pub. The American lights up a Cubano Presidente, has a few puffs, then stubs it out in the ashtray. The Scotsman says' I cannae believe you just did that! That was a top top cuban cigar! Nah, I'm from Miami, they come on in by the boatload everyday, there like twigs on the ground in the Fall' The Scotsman get a double shot of 80 yr old Malt, then pours some coke into the glass. The American say's; 'I can't believe you just diluted a priceless glass of whiskey with that crap, what were you thinking? 'Ach, it flows like rivers where I'm from..i live next to a distillery the noo' The City Banker goes to the bar, picks up a traffic warden, and throws him through the window.. |

I keep trying to like scotch, but I just am not warming up to it compared to good bourbon...

The basic premise is having contempt for things that are commonplace, yet cost serious money, like traffic warden's in central london.

There are so many areas and finishes with scotch. Similar to the world of wine IMO. Depending on your preferences, there are many that can smell rather terrible. If you have not already, try a few from different areas. Also be sure to try a few single malts with a good range of ages. Like bourbon or even tequila, the age and barrel finishing will make a huge difference. I am not a big Peat fan (typically smells and tastes very smokey and not necessarily in a good way IMO). Scotch can be very ethereal and multi-dimensional and have a massive bouquet ranging from rose pedals, caramel and sweet richness to thin, acerbic and a strong smell of alcohol. If you are a spirits fan in general, try a few more. I bet you will be surprised. |

I'm a big fan of bourbon, but I try to moderate as the alcohol content on a lot of even mid-range bourbons is over the 100 proof mark. But they are mmm mmm good.

I used to- over the hills and far far away- like Laphraig. Iodine was prominent among others, yet it worked brilliantly. The most distinctive of all Malts I think.
