During my lunch hour today I called and spoke to a local vet and went over last nights happenings in detail. He doesn't believe this was anything health wise and referred me to a vet in Walnut Creek who is also a behaviorist. Time ran short today so I'll call her tomorrow during lunch. When I arrived home he seemed as normal as ever but I think I was on edge and have very tentative. Right now he's on his window shelf and just finished cleaning himself and is now sleeping. My wife has yet to arrive home. While I was here alone watching him I'm thinking about just sending him away. As was suggested I may never completely trust him again and I don't think that's any better for him than for it is my wife and I. As I think about this more and more tears are welling up in my eyes. I really don't know what to do.

You can always learn to trust them. Believe me. Just takes time.

Default Come on Don.

Don,
Pets are not something you just throw away. You haven't even seen a good Vet yet & tried to fix this problem. I thought you loved Smokey. Come on Don! If you take a stuffed animal or talking one and mess(accidentally or on purpose) with a pet your asking for problems. You guys probably spooked him.

This is my Vet. His name is Dr. Arnott. I'm 15 minutes from Walnut Creek. Tell him Mike, Riley's owner sent you. He's an excellent Vet. I'll even meet you there if you"d like.

Thanks for the reply and when I first brought him home that was my original plan. But the more I read about it the more I began to think how cruel is was and have come to view it as mutilation.

Mike, I know it sounds over dramatic but I keep seeing the image of Smokey on top of Yolanda and it's messing with my head. And you offer to meet at the vet is awesome and I truly appreciate it It's things like this that make this forum so great, people willing to get involved and help out. I will give him a call tomorrow and see what he suggests

Don,
Until you get this figured out, have a spray bottle of water close by for your wife to use as protection in case this happens again. Cats are afraid of water. Don't use it unless you have to.
If you need any help tomorrow call me. I'll PM my cell phone number to you. Good luck.
