Simaudio and YBA
I am currently using an older Simaudio I-5, which changed the way I hear high end audio. After 25 years of going to dealers and audio shows, I can finally understand what I have been hearing.
The YBA 201 integrated, bought used, was a test of my new appreciation of high end audio. Yes, what the reviews say about YBA are correct. Really great clarity and musicality. For me, it is just behind the Simaudio I-5, specifically in the lower registers, but in the SAME ball park. Yves-Bernard André knows exactly what he is doing. TOM... |

I would enjoy owning a Gamut Di150 integrated amplifier. Although no longer made, this was a potent amp. It is a true dual mono design with large power supplies for each channel, MOSFET output stages and offers the attractive, luxurious, and symmetrical Danish design in aluminum and stainless steel. You rarely see the Gamut Di150 on the used market. Owners seem to keep them forever.
GamuT DI 150 Inputs: 2 pairs XLR, 4 pairs RCA Record output: 1 pair RCA Line output: Balanced and unbalanced Speaker posts: WBT gold plated binding posts Rated power output: 180wpc @ 8 Ohms (360 @ into 4) Input impedance: 20kOhms (single ended) / 40K Ohms (balanced) Frequency response: 20Hz to 22kHz (±.1dB) THD: < .05% (mainly 2nd harmonic) Signal / Noise ratio: > 100 dBA below 100W / 8O Power consumption: 100 watts at idle, 1000 watts max Shipping weight: 66 lbs Dimensions: 16.9 x 6.1 x 16.1 (WxHxD in inches) Price: $ 9,800 Warranty: 5 years parts and labor

My PS Audio GCC 100 was my first amp without any audio controls. No tone, balance, no loudness or filters and I've never missed them. Maybe not the panache of some of the more esoteric brands, but it just makes everything plugged into it sound better.

. Having owned one, I can vouch for the fact that this is one incredible integrated amp. I was having one of my bad hair days when I sold it . . . because it lacked balance controls . . . which I thought I needed at my vacation house, where it was being used. Crazy to have sold it . . . here is a picture of mine. (Which Dan, you have commented upon before when I posted it here.)

Julian.......I can't help but comment on the photo of your Gamut integrated amplifier. I think it is one of the most attractive integrated amplifiers I have ever seen. The inside looks as fine as the outside. I wish I had been the one to purchase it from you. I lust for the GamuT every time you post that photo.

I'm confused, the GamuT Di150 is still listed as a current product on the GamuT website -
Di150 Dual Mono Integrated Amplifier - Gamut International. Is it just not being imported to the US? Looks like Woodbridge Stereo in NJ carries the line.

I have just had the pleasure to acquire a Jeff Rowland Continuum S2 to replace my trusted Audio Research DSI200.

These are the integrated amplifiers I have used throught my audio journey. They are not high end as some of you guys, but each was memorable.
Onkyo A-5... While I was in college. Very pleased with the sound quality with a pair of Advent bull nose speakers. Kenwood KA-9100... This was an absolute beast, and was rated over 100wpc where a stock KA-9100 factory specs was 90wpc. So powerful that our nominal listening volume was only two notches above the bottom. Any higher was overkill. McIntosh MA5100... My first McIntosh component. A very warm and smooth sound. Near Mint condition with a beautiful walnut cabinet. To be honest, I am having second thoughts. Jolida JD102CRC... My first tube gear. When paired with my Focal 806Vs, I'm experiencing a holographic 3D texture for the first time. This is some of the best I had the pleasure of owning. |
