Default ATC loudspeakers

Hello folks !
Did you ever listen to ATC speakers ?
Those active ones look impressive : 2 x 800 W amps inside...
ATC Loudspeakers. SCM300 AT
I heard that the ATC sound is very similar to PMC ....
Cheers,

Not to be boneheaded, but those look a lot like the old 1980's speakers my dad had... I'm sure they sound better than they look, though.

Jérôme.......I have heard it said more than once that PMC speakers share a great deal with ATC speakers, particularly the midrange dome drivers and soft dome tweeters.

The ATC SCM300AT is quite impressive, both in looks and in components. The dual 15 active woofers in a bass reflex cabinet with a separate 275 watt amplifier on each woofer, plus a 200 watt amp on the midrange dome, and a 100 watt amplifier of the soft dome tweeter offer some serious sonic muscle. At 212 lbs., they are heavy, and at one inch shy of five feet tall the SCM300M is tall, as well. They look very nice. I would love to audition them.

The midrange dome is famous in the DIY speaker community. The SM75-150
midrange weights a decent 15 pounds handling 300W and a range from
300Hz to 5kHz and it is an expensive one.

ATC speakers originally were built as professional monitors, and that explains
a little bit the vintage look. They have first class off axis response.

Thanks Piolaxo !
I never heard them but this medium driver is rather famous.
PMC also claims for incredible off axis response.
I would love to hear the ATC, just being curious....
I also like the full active set-up. The problem is if you have a problem with an amplifier, you're loosing your whole system + upgrades are a no / no except for sources and preamps....

With an active, the synergy and engineering of amp and speaker is done by the manufacturer and who could do that better??? Appropriate sizing and placement are your only challenges.
Leaves you to buy much higher quality gear up the chain. More money for pre and source gear. It's really quite an elegant way to declutter a system.

Hi, I am new here. I ordered a pair of ATC SCM 50ASLs about a month ago. Wait time is 4-8 weeks. I have been on a equipment merry-go-round for the last two years that my wife and I are getting tired of. I was only able to listen to ATCs at a local show, but I certainly liked what I heard. I would have loved an in-home audition as I need to live my equipment to really understand it. I have read enough about them that I feel fairly comfortable with my purchase. I love the fact that the crossovers are active and the amps are designed to match the drivers and, as wpines points out, I will have less clutter and focus my attention to a much greater degree. I had an active tri-amp set up before that was truly awesome.
