This is very sad news indeed. While I never met Dan in person, I feel as if I knew him. Maybe it was because he was always willing to answer my questions about gear, provide advice and enlarge my pics for the various posts I have made (a feat I have yet to master on this site). He was such a kind and gracious person who had such an incredible command of the English language.

The quality of his reviews of gear far exceeded those of the so called "experts" who write in the industry publications. Dan has left us with a rich legacy in these wonderful reviews that we, as well as future members can cherish.

There is now a void on AA that will never be filled and maybe we should not even try to fill it. There will only be one Dan. RIP Dan.

I logged on today and the first post I saw was Bart's birthday, which put a smile on my face. The very next post is this one. If feel's as if the lights just dimmed and with it a heaviness on my heart. Dan was truly one of the best and I will miss him. Rest in peace.

I will miss Dan, his technical contributions here and his ability to moderate this forum with style.

I enjoyed discussing our individual writing styles with him. He always demonstrated a literate, factual, direct and insightful style that drew you into the subject matter with ease.

RIP, Dan.

I too have sat here in front of a blank screen, not able to find the words. I could hardly see through the tears as I made my first post in this thread.

As Ivan said, there is so much truth written here. So much, that it becomes that much more heart wrenching as I (we) read through it all.

It's been said here by those that never met Dan face to face still felt like they'd been lifelong friends...well, that's just how Dan was.

I made the trip to Dan's place many times, and he to mine, quite a few times. Each time I visited his home, he and his lovely partner Marlene made me feel like I was part of their family. I was shocked and saddened by Marlene's passing, and I know Dan was devastated by the loss. But as someone here said, Dan tried, and rather successfully I thought, to pull himself together and become the jdandy we all knew once again.

When Hurricane Irma came through Florida, and it appeared that the storm was headed for Tampa Bay, Dan invited me to come stay with he and Marlene. I stayed at their home for three days, I think. You could not find a happier couple, a couple more truly in love with each other as Dan and Marlene.

Much has been said here about Dan's gentlemanly demeanor. That he was a class act, if ever there was one.

Having been in close contact with Dan through his final days, up to and including the day of his passing, I can tell you that he carried that wonderful, caring and humble way right to the very end. He was courageous, and he was understanding of my grief when he explained to me that he had ordered that all life support measures be removed from him. I don't think I've ever had a more heart wrenching moment than saying goodbye to Dan on the phone, knowing that it would very likely be the very last time I would ever hear his voice.

We have much to thank Dan for, and much to learn from him. Hold your family close, and tell your loved ones you love them.

Dan said to me, during our last conversation "I've tried to live a good life Pete, I only wish I had told more people that I loved them".

I tried to find the words to assure him that he has lived an exemplary life, and told him how much we love him.

I am truly grieving the loss of my friend.

Thanks for your wonderful post.

I wish that we might have known of Dan’s situation in advance of his passing. I am sure his spirits may have been bolstered for even a brief moment had he known how he had touched so many in the audio community. There is always a fine line when balancing one’s privacy and the ones circle of friends.

Pete, thank you for bearing the burden for Dan’s friends.

I don't shock easily, but this news did it. I never met Dan, but was quite used to his presence on AA and amazed by his knowledge and appreciated his helpfulness in answering questions I and others had.

As I haven't been logging in consistently of late I hadn't noticed his recent absence. He will be missed, and I pray his rest is peaceful, and that those of you who knew him well will find peace also.
