Forcing air in will also create a lot more dust inside the unit so there's another important reason against doing this. Last edited by 62caddy; 05-19-2016 at 09:50 AM. |

Hmm...my amp's transformers and capacitors are sealed (with some ventilation slots), so would a fan even help?

If it's out in the open, there's really no need for additional cooling (assuming the manufacturer designed it properly). The idea of using a fan is to remove built up heat from within a cabinet that the equipment is inside.

So, I guess it gets enough air. |

I concur with Cohibaman the ventilation is more than likely adequate. Chances are that is designed with generous heat sinking as well as thermal protection.

John.......Your PrimaLuna HP will be fine on an open rack like that, and a good looking rack it is. Heat only becomes an issue with tube amplifiers and preamplifiers when air flow is restricted in some manner. My Salamander racks have the closed side options installed so air only gets to the amps from the front and rear with the amp consuming the majority of the internal shelf space. That is why I made the decision to add exhaust fans to ensure sufficient airflow. If I had selected open sides on my rack there would not have been any concern about ventilation.
