I see your selling your E600, does that mean the Arye dethroned it ?
Please share your thoughts with us. |

Surprisingly, the Ayre has given the Accuphase a significant spanking. With only 40 hours on the clock, the AX-5 Twenty has provided a much more revealing and pure sound without any harshness normally encountered with some new SS amps. It was like a veil had been taken off the sound produced by the E-600.
I was thinking that perhaps I was just enamored with my new purchase so I did some A/B comparisons last night. The Ayre won hands down. Even my "non-audiophile" wife noticed and commented on the improvement. I am truly blown away by the differences. I was hoping to hear some improvement, but certainly not to this level - especially from a new amp. Apparently, the Ayre doesn't get fully broken in until 500 hours.

must be a better synergy with your Totem speakers, In my experience the AX-5 has a more detailed presentation than the E-600 but slightly less wide soundstage, but I would not class the E-600 as "veiled".
Anyway AX-5 is a great looking/sounding amp, enjoy :-) Today I pulled the trigger on an Aavik U-300, didn't think I would ever buy a class D amp, but it sounds so good in my system.

My AX5 does however make my Dyns in my office sing so sweetly. I do hope you either tire of the Ayre or add a room. I'm hoping you try the Diablo 300 and Moon 700i. You'd then have tried every integrated I've considered and would be able to offer the most credible comparison IMO. |

I know that I have said this before, but I think I am done with my amp search. This Ayre fits really well in my current configuration and while a visit to Ivan’s Castle of Audio Nirvana might prompt me to rethink my last statement, I think I will now focus on some more room tweaks and probably a new rack.

I must say that your commitment to economic nationalism is deeply respected and cannot be contested. I say this with full disclosure that while both of my integrateds are domestically produced, none of my sources nor speakers are (but I know that I have helped enrich their US distributors and dealers, so I still sleep well).
I will also acknowledge that, having taxed my 60-yr old body putting the INT-250 in place, it was a joy to move the AX5twenty to the office without damage to my musculoskeletal system. |

It is interesting that we consider the weight of our gear as we get older. I just went through a similar process with my speakers - going from Aerial 7T to Totem Acoustic Element Metal. They are so much easier to move around.

Just a quick update on the AX-5 Twenty. With about 200 hours on the clock, this amp still continues to show meaningful jumps in improved performance. It's quite amazing (and sometimes startling) to hear additional layers of definition and detail on reference tracks heard hundreds of times in the past!
I know it's all about synergy but I would have to say that the Ayre has really exceeded my expectations and performs exceptionally well in my audio room with all my gear. The next steps for me will be tweaks and maybe a new rack. I haven't had the OCD-fueled thought process of wondering what other amp might sound better!
