Here's why airfares to Hawaii could get cheaper
Both the airplane (airframe and engines) and the airline have to be certified for Extended Operations (ETOPS) to fly twin engine aircraft to Hawaii from the West Coast. This is a very stringent certification process. SW will probably do it for some portion of their fleet.
ETOPS also stands for "Engines Turn Or Passengers Swim" Aviation has a perfect record - we've never left one up there yet! Tom Quote:
