they are actually pretty compact. But you still don't really want to lift one yourself!
They are heavy, and the weight is very unevenly distributed front to back.

That, as I've said other places, is the one thing that concerns me as I get older.

Still, with all that's happened this year, they've been collecting dust for a while now, as I haven't dusted in months. Must take them out of the racks for some dusting. Heck, the whole setup could use that. Maybe next week, as I'm scheduled for some time off. And since I can't go to the gym, I can do some Mac-lifting instead.

Was the dealer in Green Bay?

Now I remember (I think); it was Geneva, WI. At least that’s where the equipment came from.

We've written about how heavy the 501s are. Yesterday, I took delivery of a Furman IT-Reference 15i power conditioner, which weighs a hefty 50 pounds; I'd forgotten about that. Getting it up the stairs was a bit of work, but the unboxing and racking of it was when I really felt its weight even more. That made me think again about a time coming when I can't manage the 501s, which are close to double the weight of the Furman. Am I the only one who thinks seriously about replacing the 501s because of something like this? That time is getting closer. Maybe I'd be getting a nice 40lb. each pair of monos, say, the Odyssey Stratos (they would have been my choice but I was put off by the long break-in time). This replacing the 501s idea is (very) slowly gaining a bit of momentum once again after yesterday.

I should play the system today, I think . . .

Bryston 2.5B Cubed Dual-Mono Amplifier. 28 lbs. 20 year warranty and 100 hr of bench burn-in. No further burn in resulted in any significant improvement... I had nearly a baker's dozen of Bryston amps at once for my theater and they all sounded fantastic out of the box. Break in beyond a few day period of thermal equilibrium/stabilization/capacitor forming (maybe) is a myth.

Or you can try at home the PS Audio Stellar for $1500 (13lbs.) https://www.psaudio.com/products/ste...ier/#tab-specs

I’ve had 501’s for about 15 years. I’m not ready to replace them yet due to weight but without a doubt they are built like boulders, no easy way to lift.

The weight is however why I can’t see getting bigger Mac’s even though I would love to see 1.25KW’s between my speakers!

I think the 501’s were the main reason for my hernia in 2016!

Yep, I remember moving the 501s around quite a bit in my ever evolving system over a decade ago. I was in my early 40s and it was always a careful and methodical approach as to how to lift, balance and carry a very unbalanced and heavy object like the 501 monoblock. It is no joke as they can easily strain a back muscle, worse yet, cause a herniated disk or a hernia. Dropping it on one's foot and it is game over, or as they say in Brooklyn FUGGEDABOUTIT...

Be careful.

Yes, thanks. I only scoot them around on hardwood floors when I need to move them.

Seriously, I was 58 in 2016 and carried both up a flight of stairs and coincidently I discovered an Iguinal Hernia. I am blaming the amps!

A padded handtruck comes in very handy when I have to deal with mine.
