The "Holo-Plug" is appropriately named...its completely hollow.

Take it back to dealer. That fact that a warranty card was not sent should have no bearing on Nordost doing the right thing.

I know I could claim for this, but seeing that thing, I just don’t wanna use that again. But as audio bill suggested, resale value will hurt. But I can manage that.

Should I replace those with Rhodium or Gold plated connectors ?
Furutech FI50NCF. Or FI46 Gold ?
Vh2 tends to be light and colder sounding, but with amazing details.

Toga, gold delivers more of a warmth IMO, but first I would take the cable back to the dealer if you bought it from one, if not, talk to Nordost direct - I never had a problem with their service being responsive.

Cryogenic treatment is beneficial to metal wire and contacts but weakens many plastic compounds and caused polycarbonates to become brittle. This is just some of the reasons we do not recommend cryogenic treatment.

For clarity on cryogenic if there is confusion for some, Nordost does not believe in cryogenic treatment, nor have they done it.

If there is an issue with the connector Toga is encouraged to simply take it to his dealer or contact Nordost directly, they would address it. As normal, Nordost will evaluate it to see what happened and more importantly resolve it for the customer. Nordost does stand behind its products they build.

It would be nice to know what happened, especially for us Nordost users as a piece of mind.

I’m happy to help, if needed

And to be clear on my part, I didn’t claim that Nordost cryogenically treats their cables. However, many individuals do treat their cables, tubes and a variety of other parts up to and including whole components. We have many years of extensive experience with cryogenics and what is appropriate for its application and what is not. Mine is simply a warning to customers to avoid indiscriminate use of cryogenics. Further the type of failure that Toga has shown is typical of this type of failure. Can it be caused by something else - yes, of course. Is it likely to be caused by living in a place with temperatures above 90 degrees? Absolutely not. The ABS, PVC and polycarbonate compounds used to make these connectors are very tolerant of very high temperatures.

I would encourage Toga to contact Nordost and give them the opportunity to make it right. ALL components can and do fail. It is what happens after there is a problem that distinguishes companies with exceptional commitment to its customers. Most manufacturers that I know will go out of their way to make their customers happy.

Cheers,

Hi, thanks all for your valuable suggestions.
I will of course, contact Nordost. Looking in their website “ contact us”
Trying to find a way to attach some photos.

This cable of mine was used with a low wattage CD Player for most of its life time. First Ayon CD35, then Luxman D08u. The broken side is plugged into active power conditioner, Accuphase PS520 , which is warm to the touch, but I don’t think that the outlet can conduct heat from the active circuits. At least other Wattgate EVOs were intact till now.
Toga
