I would bet their research indicates they would lose 70% of their sales with pre's without a DAC. DAC's are like tone controls, don;t use it if you don't want to. It is nice they are using modules now.

Thinking about it and the D1100 might have too many digital inputs for a module unless they make major changes

I would not expect the small DAC module to sonically compare to the discreet components of the D1100.
I also prefer my preamp without the RFI of a high performance DAC inside (I am not trying to stir up this old argument, just MHO).
