It is not possible to restore, by a superior cable in our playback system, that which was lost during the original recording. If it was lost, it cannot be recovered. If it was corrupted, it cannot be purified.

I absolutely would purchase an entirely new system, top to bottom. I don't think I would select cables on the basis of money no longer being a concern. It would give me the flexibility to evaluate different cables which I would most assuredly do.

I have found a few errors in the video which I will list in a post when I finish watching it, hopefully later today.

Is Winer's null test infallible or can it be fooled? Find out the facts and the truth behind this testing method from Paul McGowan.

Paul's response is fallable. . .

I don't know Ethan from Adam. Earlier in this thread it was suggested that his motives were disgenuine - and they very well may be.

Really, this debate is akin to discussing politics at the Thanksgiving gathering ...

..............was this entire high end cable industry based on a farce and pure ingenious marketing?

Is it Noel Lee's fault?

Unfortunately I found nothing of substance in Paul's explanation.

He seems like an unbiased individual and obviously high end audio gear manufacturer that has no "skin" in the cable game (other than power cords)

The shielded power cord example in Paul's video is obvious, we don't use un-shielded power cords if we know better.

The "speaker cable" to "speaker interaction" leaves way too variables up in the air. If one speaker cable could be somehow beneficial to one speaker, then surely it would be unfavorable to another design speaker. Is that what the speaker cable manufacturers would want us to believe?

So to summarize as this thread is indeed going nowhere and to draw my own conclusions from all of this. I remain unbiased by the way. Show me proof and I will agree.

1. The Null test stands IMHO. I see nothing "fallible" about it at its very core.

2. Since no "high end" audio cables were compared, a comparison of a generic cable to Uber cable would have been much more effective to prove Ethan's point. Once again, if there was a difference and it would be easy to design a cable that would clearly show a difference by incorporating components that would take capacitance, inductance and resistance waaay outside the norms, THAT would obvsiously show up on the Null Test but would be DETRIMENTAL to preserving a purity of sound.

3. As it stands, we still rely on marketing and pseudo-science and our own ears (which seems like an unreliable instrument based on the professional musicians and violin examples elsewhere in this thread) until the day we can measure THAT which is immeasurable today and somehow prove that those differences are actually BENEFICIAL to sound.

IMHO, FWIW and YMMV.

Well, I need a 3M USB 2.0 A to B cable to go between my D150 and PC. Currently, I'm using a freebie cord that came with a printer. My main beef with it is that its connection to the D150 is not solid - wonky at best.

I'm game to be objective here. Recommend an inexpensive substitute and I'll try it out! I was looking at the AudioQuest Pearl or Wire World Chroma . . . other suggestions?

I can’t help you with that one. I’ve tried my best to hear a difference between a rather expensive USB cable from a well known company vs a stock but quality USB cable that came with my German extreme quality headphone amplifier. Using a pair of $4k Focal Utopia headphones that have ultra-linear beryllium drivers and are flat out to 50Khz, making them a much superior tool than any speaker really, I could not pinpoint a difference at all.

Oh come on; in all seriousness. I heard the positive difference from the Shunyata Sigma USB over the WW Platinum Starlight in 30 seconds flat.

I ordered 9 Shunyata Sigma USB Cables immediately after; that’s $20K retail, and for me it was a no brainer.

Furthermore, I’m not alone as I order them for customers daily. I sent one to Dan for review, and never got it back!
