I am not sure if I can answer that question just yet. For me the looks of the E-560 outclass the L-550AX. I have never had a chance to demo a 560 in my room, which I have learned in the last week is an absolute must when buying new gear.

As an aside, I have been demo'ing a pair of Joseph Audio Perspective speakers in my home for the last week because I thought they might be the next logical speaker upgrade for me. I listened to them at my dealer's shop coupled with system that cost tens of thousands of dollars more than my setup at home (most of it in the digital front end). The sound I heard that day was simply stunning. Now I have the Perspectives at home in a much much smaller room with more modest supporting gear and I must say they are not a good fit for my setup. My current speakers sound much better.

I guess what I am getting at is that I learned that no matter how good a piece sounds at the dealer the only thing that matters is how it sounds in your own room. In this case it works out for me because the money I would have spent on the Perspectives is the money I used to buy the E-560.

Now granted, I broke my own newfound rule by buying the 560 without auditioning it first, but that is a risk I am willing to take. I am fairly certain it should be better than the 550AX, but if it is not...well we will wait and see.

Hi Migman,

If the E-560 is new, give it time it will become a lot better.
The Vienna Acoustics Beethovens are already very nice speakers, should be a good match with the Accuphase.

Well it arrived safe and sound. The 560 is all I hoped it would be. Just a beautiful piece. The sound! All I can say is Wow! It is just so silky smooth and effortless. I am looking forward to many nights of listening ahead. Here is a quick snapshot of the rack as I am listening to some of my favorite soundtracks on reel to reel.

Well, I listened to it today at Migman's. Listened for about an hour. FANTASTIC! Every positive word I have heard of this amp is true. I can't explain or put into words how it is better than the 550 - it just is. More musical, lots of grip, great weight to the music yet so very smooth. Great, great amp!
